The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commented on the situation with the renaming of the Moldovan language into Romanian. She emphasized in his Telegram channel that this decision of the Moldovan parliament does not correspond to historical logic.
It is noted that the Foreign Ministry of Romania approved the decision of the Parliament of Moldova on the renaming of the state language of the republic into Romanian. The department stressed that the bill “restored scientific truth.”
Zakharova recalled that the Moldavian language is mentioned in studies published in the 16th-17th centuries, in particular, in the work Treasures of Chronology.
According to her, during this historical period, the chroniclers did not report on the Romanian language as such. They talked about the existence of the Old Romanian (Wallachian) language. She added that Romanian took shape only at the end of the 18th century, thanks to the work of theologian Samuil Miku-Klein.
The renaming led to the emergence of a paradox – the Moldovan language today has been preserved at the official level only in Transnistria, Zakharova noted.
The diplomat concluded that it is still necessary to adhere to historical logic and call “Romanian Moldovan, and not vice versa.”
