Instead of the previously announced ballet “A Hero of Our Time” Kirill Serebrennikov The Bolshoi Theater will show the ballet “Master and Margarita”. This was reported in the official Telegram channel of the theater.
The reason for the replacement of Serebrennikov’s performance at the theater was not specified. “A Hero of Our Time” disappeared from the poster on the Bolshoi Theater website. The performance was to be shown on May 5, 6 and 7.
“On May 5, 6 and 7, instead of the previously announced performances of the ballet “Hero of Our Time”, performances of the ballet “The Master and Margarita” will be shown,” the message says.
The ballet A Hero of Our Time disappeared from the repertoire of the Bolshoi Theater in the spring of 2022. Soon another ballet by Serebrennikov, Nureyev, disappeared from the poster. Separately, the disappearance of these productions from the repertoire was not reported.
On March 14, 2023, it became known that the Bolshoi Theater returned the ballet A Hero of Our Time to the program. The author’s name was not on the poster.
Ballet choreographed Yuri Posokhov to music by Ilya Demutsky and libretto by Kirill Serebrennikov. In 2016, A Hero of Our Time received three nominations for the Golden Mask Award.
In March 2022, Serebrennikov left Russia for France. The director openly spoke out against Russia’s special operation in Ukraine.
