American parliamentarians were asked to study the issue of limiting the “expanding presence” of the private military company (PMC) Wagner in the world, RT reports, citing a report by the research service of the American Congress. Analysts also recalled already existing initiatives requiring the recognition of the Russian PMC as a foreign terrorist organization.
Congressmen may consider other available legislative and oversight options to further limit and counter the Wagner group’s expanding presence in the world, the document says.
At the same time, experts warned that such a decision could affect US relations with Russia and other countries that used the services of private military company fighters. At the same time, experts still insist on discussing the advisability of exploring other strategies and tools through which Washington could “motivate” other states to refuse to cooperate with Wagner.
In January, White House National Security Council strategic communications coordinator John Kirby said the US Treasury Department had decided to designate the Wagner PMC as a transnational criminal organization.
