Earlier, the pre-trial ICC issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and children’s ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova. Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov stated that the very formulation of the question of the decision of the court is unacceptable. He recalled that Moscow does not even recognize the jurisdiction of this body, so any of its decisions have no legal force. Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation UN Vasily Nebenzya also stressed that Moscow does not recognize the legality of the documents of the International Criminal Court, and the body itself has long embarked on the path of self-destruction.
Joe Biden also commented on the issuance of a warrant for the arrest of Vladimir Putin and said that such a measure is “justified.” At the same time, the US leader noted that Washington does not recognize the competence of the body either, but in the case of the Russian authorities, the position of the International Criminal Court is “strong enough.” Biden also raised the topic of Russian war crimes in Ukraine again.
