Former US President Donald Trump announced that he was awaiting his arrest on March 21, and called on his supporters to come out to protest. “Leader by a wide margin the GOP candidate and former president of the United States of America will be detained on Tuesday next week. Protest, take back our nation!” Trump tweeted on Saturday, March 18, on Truth Social.
The New York prosecutor’s office is investigating Trump in the case of paying money for silence about relations with him to porn actress Stormy Daniels. After the presentation of evidence by the prosecutor’s office, the jury will have to decide on the indictment. US media suggest that this decision will be made in the coming days. Thus, Trump could become the first ex-US president to be charged with a crime.
Why he believes that his detention may occur on March 21, Trump did not specify. The politician rejects the accusations of the prosecutor’s office against him.
Trump intends to run in the 2024 election
In November 2022, Donald Trump announced that he would once again compete for the presidency of the United States on elections 2024. According to him, he will not give up this intention even if charges are brought against him. He has repeatedly stated in the past that all the charges against him are politically motivated.
Paying money for silence is not a crime in the US. However, prosecutors may consider that the $130,000 given by Trump to Daniels influenced his campaign and thus became her prohibited funding under the laws of the State of New York, dpa explains.
Meanwhile, American entrepreneur Elon Musk tweeted on March 18: “If this is (Trump’s possible detention. – Ed.) happen, Trump will be re-elected in a stunning victory.”
