Notification of suspicion made public on the website of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, reports Center for Investigative Journalism.
The document states that Romaskevich Yury Alekseevich, born June 13, 1966, in July 2022 voluntarily agreed to head the Russian-controlled Kherson Center for Epidemiology.
The reason for reporting suspicion to Yuriy Romaskevich was also CJR publication with evidence of his cooperation with the Russian invaders and his participation in the propaganda forum “We are with Russia” held in Kherson on July 30, 2022. At this forum, Yuriy Romaskevich argued that the level of medicine in the Kherson region and in Ukraine is much lower than in Crimea, illegally annexed by Russia. Although for many years he himself was in far from the last positions in the field of healthcare in the region.
Shortly before the liberation of Kherson, Yuri Romaskevich fled to Genichesk, where he became member of the “Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation” and a delegate of the first congress of this political force from the Kherson region, held in the occupied Crimea.
For high treason under martial law, Yuri Romanakevich faces life imprisonment, with confiscation of property – under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Yury Romaskevich graduated from the Crimean Medical Institute, later worked as the chief therapist of the health department of the Kherson Regional State Administration. At various times, he headed the Kherson Regional Medical and Physical Education Dispensary, the scientific advisory commission of the Association of Specialists in Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy of Ukraine, and in recent years he headed the Kherson Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. In January 2021, he was appointed to the position of the chief state sanitary doctor of Kherson.
In 2001 he was awarded the honorary title “Honored Doctor of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea”, in August 2006 he was awarded the Order of Merit, III degree. In January 2015 he received the honorary title of Honored Doctor of Ukraine. In August 2017, the Kherson City Council awarded him the title of “Honorary Citizen of Kherson”.
Over the years, he participated in the elections to the Kherson City Council from the UPS-Svicha parties (2002), the Agrarian Party of Ukraine (2010), but was not elected. In 2015-2020, he was a deputy of the Kherson Regional Council of the 7th convocation from the political party “Association “Self Help”.
In March 2023, Yuriy Romaskevich was dismissed from the post of General Director of the Kherson Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
