On the sidelines of the summit, the Ukrainian leader compared the situation in Bakhmut to Hiroshima, which was hit by a nuclear bomb.
“What happened in Hiroshima, and the destruction that we have … I will say frankly, I will say openly – the photos of the destruction of Hiroshima remind me of Bakhmut,” Zelensky said.
US President Joe Biden also commented on the situation.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called the training of Ukrainian pilots to fly the F-16 a message from the Russian Federation against a protracted conflict. In his opinion, the peace plan “cannot be associated with a simple freezing of the conflict.”
At the same time, the chancellor said that Germany’s participation in the possible supply of F-16 fighter jets to Kyiv is not discussed.
“Everyone knows that we don’t even have such aircraft,” NTV quoted the chancellor as saying on the sidelines of the G7 summit.
Joe Biden said he does not expect the participation of the F-16 in the upcoming Ukrainian counteroffensive. He also stated that Kyiv would not use F-16s to attack Russian territory. According to Biden, Zelensky assured him of this.
The US leader also said that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine “are not subject to negotiations.”
