WofestHuelvathe film exhibition made by women that is held from March 16 to 18, once again extends to the province of Huelva thanks to the Deputation, one of its main sponsors. In its eighth edition, the chosen film is ‘To the women of Spain. Maria Lejarraga’of Laura Hojmannone of the most praised Spanish documentaries of last year, which will cover all the Huelva provinces, from the Sierra to the Coast.
This year the projections are made in educational centers, since it is a documentary especially recommended to promote gender equality, one of the objectives of WofestHuelva. The scheduled sessions are in Santa Olalla del Cala (IES Puerta Andalucía), Punta Umbría (IES Saltés), Puebla de Guzmán (IES Andévalo), Nerva (IES Vázquez Díaz) and La Palma del Condado (IES La Palma). All sessions have free admission until full capacity, thanks to the collaboration of the Provincial Council.
‘To all the women of Spain’ is a documentary that tells the story of María Lejárraga, writer and pioneer of feminism in Spain during the 1920s, whose production was released under the name of her husband, the theater manager Gregorio Martínez Sierra. The most prolific Spanish playwright -played in the documentary by Cristina Domínguez- of all time, author of works such as Lullaby, made into a film five times, or the libretto for El amor brujo, by Falla, was also a deputy for the Second Republic and founder of pioneering projects for the rights and freedoms of women.
The film has been nominated for Best Documentary Film at the Goya 2023 and has been the winner of the Carmen Award from the Andalusian Academy.
Laura Hojman is a screenwriter and film director. She graduated in Art History from the University of Seville. Since 2016 she is a partner at Summer Films, where she is in charge of the development of documentary projects. She has been president of the Andalusian Association of Women in the Audiovisual Media and has received, among other awards, the RTVA Award for the Best Andalusian Filmmaker at the Huelva Festival, the ASFAAN Award for film career and the Women in Art Award in La Rioja in recognition of her career in the cinematographic arts and her associative work in support of professional women in the audiovisual industry. ‘To the Women of Spain. María Lejárraga ‘is her third feature film as a director, for which she has been nominated for the Goya Awards, the Feroz Awards and the Forqué Awards.
WofestHuelva celebrates its eighth edition, becoming a reference in the world of Huelva culture. In these eight years, more than 20,000 spectators have enjoyed quality cinema thanks to this initiative that brings to Huelva the best films directed by women in the last year.
The eighth edition of WofestHuelva It will be on March 16, 17 and 18 with the Gran Teatro de Huelva as the nerve center of its activity. The programming brings together titles from the best contemporary audiovisual directors, promoting, inspiring and disseminating the work of women in the cinematographic field. Aware of the importance of providing new references that will inspire new cinematographic vocations, the exhibition also aims to promote audiovisual creation among the people of Huelva. The exhibition brings to Huelva films that have won important national and international awards, placing the Huelva capital at the forefront of contemporary cinema.
