According to exit polls, early parliamentary elections in Kazakhstan the ruling party “Amanat” (previously – the party of the ex-president of the country Nursultan Nazarbayev “Nur Otan”) is in the lead. She won 53.46% of the vote, the Institute for Eurasian Integration said on Sunday evening, March 19. The second place, according to the results of his exit polls, was taken by the Auyl patriotic party with a score of 10.52% of the voters, followed by the Respublika party, which received 8.90% of the votes, Aigerim Yerginbolat, a representative of the institute, said on the air of the republican TV channel.
In addition, the Ak Zhol party (7.87% of the vote), the People’s Party of Kazakhstan (6.25% of the vote) and the National Social Democratic Party (OSDP, 5.31% of the vote) overcame the five percent barrier.
In turn, the research association “Institute of Democracy” reported the data of its exit polls with a similar distribution of votes: “Amanat” – 53.33%, “Auyl” – 11.26%, “Ak Zhol” – 8.87%, “Respublika” – 8.33%, “People’s Party of Kazakhstan” – 6.93%, OSDP – 5.12%.
Opposition involvement
Thus, it is expected that parliament six parties will be included, so far only three pro-government parties have been represented in the Majilis. The voter turnout was over 54 percent.
For the first time in nearly 20 years, elections in Kazakhstan Oppositionists ran as independent candidates. All seven officially registered political parties in the country participated in them. In addition to the parties Amanat, Ak Zhol and the People’s Party of Kazakhstan (PPK) represented so far, Auyl and the OSDP, as well as the recently registered Baitak and Respublika parties, entered the race.
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced early parliamentary elections in January as part of a modernization process he launched after massive anti-government protests and riots in early 2022.
