About 1,500 personal belongings of Queen soloist Freddie Mercury will be auctioned at Sothbey’s on the musician’s 77th birthday.
A mustache comb, stage costumes, Mercury’s handwritten lyrics will be auctioned on September 5th. This was reported on April 26 by The Guardian. Notable items include a crown modeled after St. Edward’s and a red velvet cloak. Mercury wore this outfit to the final performance of God Save the Queen, which ended the band’s last live performance at Knebworth in 1986.
These things have not been touched for over 30 years. There will be exhibitions in London, New York, Los Angeles and Hong Kong before they go up for auction.
The owner of the collection is Mary Austin, a close friend and civil wife of the musician.
“Freddie was an incredible and intelligent collector who showed us that there is beauty, fun and conversation in everything. I hope that [выставки и аукционы] will give the opportunity to share all the facets of Freddy, both public and private, and the world will learn more about his unique and beautiful spirit, ” quotes her edition.
