Finns worried about search queries from Russia – 26 May 2023
Map services in Finland receive a lot of search queries from Russia. This was stated by the Security Committee under the Ministry of Defense of the country, Finnish media reported on May 26.
For security reasons, according to local journalists, the municipalities have asked not to post maps in the public domain.
A safety issue in Finland was named as the location of various cables, as well as heating and sewage pipes.
“I recommend that all municipalities take critical infrastructure data out of the public domain and release it upon request. I also urge the municipal authorities to check crisis preparedness before the summer, that is, cybersecurity and replacements in case of summer holidays, ” Petri Toivonen, chief secretary of the security committee, told reporters.
He added that he calls for attention not only to officials, but also to representatives of local companies. They “play an important role.”
