The Bulgarian writer Georgi Gospodinov won the International Booker Prize for his novel The Shelter. The winner was announced on May 23rd.
The press service reports the victory of Gospodinov prizesthe laureate was announced by the chairman of the jury, writer Leila Slimani, at a ceremony in London.
The novel was written in 2020, in the current year it was translated into Russian. Gospodinov himself said that the book is dedicated to the “militarization of nostalgia.”
A prize in the amount of about 5 million rubles is given to writers and translators for books published in English. The remuneration is shared by the author and the translator.
