Belarus established a new pro-government party “Belaya Rus”, created on the basis of the public association of the same name. The corresponding decision was made at the founding congress of “Belaya Rus” in Minsk on Saturday, March 18. Speaker of the upper house of the Belarusian parliament Natalya Kochanova took part in the work of the congress.

The head of the NGO “Belaya Rus” Oleg Romanov was elected the chairman of the new political organization.

The public association “Belaya Rus” was established in November 2007, in December of the same year it was registered by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic. The association’s website says that it unites “200,000 caring patriots” – more than 8,500 primary organizations. It was especially noted that “Belaya Rus” was initially aimed at supporting the political course” of the Belarusian ruler Alexandra Lukashenko.

IN Belarus this year, amendments were made to the laws on the activities of political parties and public associations. Among other things, they provide for the possibility of liquidating a party for propaganda of war, terrorist or extremist activities, activities that harm state and (or) public interests, as well as receiving funds and other property from foreign sources.
