In Rostov-on-Don, in the Southern Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, on April 25, the founding general meeting of the Branch of the Russian Geographical Society in the Donetsk People’s Republic was held. The founder of the department was the leadership of the Donetsk Republican Museum of Local Lore.
“Today we have entered into history an important event in the activities of the Russian Geographical Society. I am sure that the opening of a branch in the Donetsk People’s Republic will allow not only to expand the geography of the Russian Geographical Society, but also to make important discoveries, to outline new vectors of interregional cooperation. Soon another full-fledged regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society will work on Donetsk land in order to popularize geography, preserve the cultural and natural heritage of our country, as well as educate a new generation that is not indifferent to the true history of Russia, — Sergey Korlykhanov, Deputy Executive Director of the Russian Geographical Society, emphasized in his greeting to the audience.
Before the start of the general meeting, Sergei Korlykhanov presented the membership cards of the Russian Geographical Society to the new members of the Russian Geographical Society.
The department will be headed by Marina Maksimchuk, General Director of the Donetsk Republican Museum of Local Lore.
“I am very glad that we have been given the trust to enter such a large and friendly family of the Russian Geographical Society. Taking into account the experience of the Rostov Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, we are confident that with the support of the Executive Directorate of the Russian Geographical Society we will become one of the best branches of the Russian Geographical Society, – Marina Maksimchuk said in her speech.
The Donetsk Republican Museum of Local Lore was founded in 1924.
