On April 25, at the Headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society in Moscow, a documentary film “Non-freezing Port of Hope” dedicated to the heroic defense of the Arctic during the Great Patriotic War will be shown. The film directed by Darya Khrenova is based on the diaries of Admiral Arseny Golovko, as well as materials from the Central Archive of the Ministry of Defense and the State Archive of the Russian Federation.

Arseny Grigoryevich Golovko from July 1940 to April 1946 commanded the Northern Fleet. Under his leadership, Soviet sailors defended the Arctic, provided escort for sea convoys, fought for sea communications, and participated in the Petsamo-Kirkenes offensive.

Filming a documentary Ice-free port of hope were held in Severomorsk, Murmansk, St. Petersburg, Liinakhamari and Monchegorsk. Director and screenwriter Daria Khrenova, curator of the DOK Expedition course at the Russian Geographical Society, creator of more than 300 television programs and films, will tell the audience about their features.

“It was a project about the author’s love for the Arctic region, in which every stone, every island of moss breathes the memory of the war that took place here. There are still places littered with cartridge cases, helmets, artifacts of the war. traces of human presence, shared her vision of the topic Daria Khrenova.

The screening will take place on April 25 at the Headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society in Moscow at the address: Novaya Square, 10, building 2. The screening starts at 18:00. Seats are limited, to participate you must fill out a form.
