Natural gas supplies from the Black Sea Sakarya field to Turkish consumers will begin before the end of April 2023. This was announced by the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey Fatih Donmez on the air of the TRT TV channel.
He explained that the delays were due to the February earthquakes. “We will keep our promise to our citizens,” Donmez said. About this on Saturday, March 18, writes TASS. Initially, it was planned that gas from the Sakarya field will begin to flow to Turkish consumers in March.
The issue of Black Sea gas supplies is important for Ankara. The Turkish authorities expect that after receiving it, the country’s dependence on external sources will decrease to 70%.
The Sakarya field is located 155 km off the coast of Turkey in the Black Sea. Its natural gas reserves reach 710 billion cubic meters, previously reported Donmez. According to him, this volume will be enough to cover the 33-year demand of the population of the republic.
Turkey announced that almost $10 billion would be invested in the project for the production and transportation of 540 billion cubic meters of gas from the Sakarya field.
