Finnish President Sauli Niinistö spoke about Sweden’s chances of becoming a NATO member. According to him, they have not become worse. He made this statement during an interview with SVT TV channel.

The politician also does not believe that Helsinki let Stockholm down, because the states have always declared their desire to join the North Atlantic Alliance at the same time. “Do you think we should have denied Turkey ratification? Sounds a little crazy,” he pointed out.

According to Niinistö, the situation would be terribly difficult if Finland said “no” to Ankara. About this on Sunday, March 19, writes TASS.

Earlier it was reported that the Turkish Parliament began the process of ratifying Finland’s application to join NATO. Turkish leader during a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary General announced his intentions “to continue negotiations with Sweden” on the issue of its entry into the military-political bloc.

Finland and Sweden submitted to the NATO Secretary General applications for joining the Alliance last spring. This happened against the backdrop of the conflict in Ukraine.
