The head of the State Special Communications Service of Ukraine, Yuriy Shchigol, said that an additional 31.6 billion hryvnias (about $867 million) would be allocated from the department’s budget for the purchase of drones for the country’s army.
UAVs of Ukrainian production will be mainly purchased, informs Saturday, March 18, RIA Novosti.
Shchigol added that drones, like cartridges, are indeed consumables. According to him, the defense forces lose an average of 10-15 drones per day.
The military command intends to create 60 strike companies of the Army of Drones. The first ten companies will be created and equipped this month, and in March they will start performing tasks.
Earlier it was reported that the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine will allocate $544 million for the purchase of drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Ministry has already concluded 16 government contracts with manufacturers. For 7 months of the existence of the Army of Drones program Ukraine bought about 1600 drones.
