Former President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev voted in the extraordinary elections of deputies of the lower house of parliament – the Majilis and local representative bodies – maslikhats. The politician cast his vote in Astana at polling station No. 393, which is located in the Astana Opera Theater. About this March 19 writes RIA News.
Polling stations in Kazakhstan started working at 7:00 local time (04:00 Moscow time). Seven parties are participating in the elections: Amanat, Ak Zhol, the People’s Party of Kazakhstan, Auyl, the National Social Democratic Party, Baitak and the Respublica Party. The President of Kazakhstan has already voted in the elections Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov.
According to the reforms of the political system launched by Tokayev, the elections should fill the formula “a strong president – an influential parliament – an accountable government” with real content. Prior to this, Tokayev canceled the law on the first president of the republic and the leader of the nation. In fact, he deprived Nazarbayev of all privileges.
Nursultan Nazarbayev is 82 years old. He led Kazakhstan from 1989 to 2019. In 1999, he founded the Nur Otan party, which after rebranding is called Amanat.
