On this day, the Russian Federation celebrates the Day of the reunification of Crimea with Russia. The ninth anniversary will take place in 2023. On March 11, 2014, the Supreme Council of the Republic of Crimea and the Sevastopol City Council adopted a declaration on the independence of the regions. More than 96% of the inhabitants of these territories voted for this decision. The reunification of the Crimean peninsula with the republic and the city of Sevastopol located on it was fixed by an interstate agreement, which was signed on that day in the Georgievsky Hall of the Grand Palace in Moscow by the heads of Russia and the Republic of Crimea. In the following 2015, the State Council of the Republic amended the law on holidays and memorable dates on the peninsula. March 18 became the Day of the reunification of Crimea with Russia.
