The Investigative Committee of Russia will conduct an investigation in connection with the illegal issuance of arrest warrants by the International Criminal Court (ICC), which is not recognized in the Russian Federation, for Russian President Vladimir Putin and children’s ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova. This order was given by the head of the RF IC Alexander Bastrykin.
“The Chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee instructed the central office of the department to organize a procedural check in connection with the illegal issuance of warrants for the arrest of Russian citizens by the International Criminal Court,” the Investigative Committee said in a statement. Statement published on the website of the department on Friday, March 17.
The Investigative Committee intends to identify specific persons from among the judges of the ICC who made these obviously illegal decisions, noted in the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.
Pre-trial Chamber of the International Criminal Court not recognized by Russia issued warrants for the arrest of Putin and Lvova-Belova in connection with the events in Ukraine. The Russian Foreign Ministry explained that the decisions of the ICC are legally null and void. The president’s spokesman said the question itself was unacceptable.
