Vladimir Putin signed a law providing for criminal liability in the form of imprisonment for up to 15 years or a fine of up to 5 million rubles for discrediting members of the SVO. Document would published on Saturday, March 18, on the portal of legal information.

According to the law, citizens who spread fakes about the participants in the special operation will also be punished, regardless of their status. For such actions, Russians face liability under Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, including up to 15 years in prison in case of serious consequences.

The amendments also introduce liability for discrediting the use of the Russian Armed Forces abroad, and increase the threshold for punishment under the entire article (280.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) to seven years in prison. Previously, the maximum sentence for it was up to five years.

Amendments on liability for discrediting members of the NWO were made to the State Duma on March 1. The next day, the deputies approved them. The speaker of the lower house of parliament previously pointed out the inadmissibility of public dissemination of deliberately false information, which is aimed at discrediting the RF Armed Forces and volunteer groups.
