Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on March 19 that the opposition is against the implementation of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant project. However, this is an opportunity to provide the country with “green” electricity, the Turkish leader believes. He stated this during the opening ceremony of a plant for the production of boron carbide.
“We are taking steps in the “green” energy, and they say – “we will not.” What kind of logic is this, what kind of thinking is this? Erdogan said,
The President expressed confidence that the people of Turkey would not vote for the opposition, since power cuts would begin again with her coming to power. Prior to this, the Turkish leader said that the opposition is playing into the hands of the West, intending to conduct an “audit” of Akkuyu and investments in the defense complex.
The Akkuyu nuclear power plant, which is being built in the province of Mersin on the Mediterranean coast, is Russian-Turkish project. Ankara provided a site for construction and guaranteed the purchase of a certain part of the electricity. Russia established the Akkuyu Nuclear Company, which committed to implement the project and then operate it. The majority shareholder of Akkuyu is a state corporation Rosatom.
