In Turkey, on Saturday, March 18, the election campaign for the presidential and parliamentary elections begins, it will last until May 13, when a “day of silence” will be announced. Voting will take place on May 14, and the second round of presidential elections may be held on May 28.

The Election Calendar was approved by the Supreme Electoral Council of Turkey. The nomination of presidential candidates will start on March 19 and will last until 17:00 on March 23, the list of candidates will be published in the government gazette on March 31. Then they will be able to start campaigning, writes TASS with reference to the TV channel TRT.

Political parties or unions participating in the elections must submit lists of their candidates to the CEC by the end of March 24.

The ruling People’s Alliance’s presidential candidate is Turkey’s current leader, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. His main rival will be the leader of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.

Several other politicians also announced their participation in the elections, including former representative of the CHP Muharrem Ince, ex-deputy of parliament, leader of the ATA political alliance Sinan Ogan, head of the Turkey election bloc Turgut Ozal Ahmet Ozal.

The previous presidential elections were held in Turkey on June 24, 2018.

Earlier, Profile.ru reported that members of the Justice and Development Party proposed to Erdogan to postpone the elections from May 14 to June 18 after strong earthquakes in the southeast of the country. However the head of state disagreed postpone the vote.
