German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said it was difficult to predict which direction negotiations between Moscow and Beijing would take during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s upcoming visit to Russia. This was stated by the head of the German government, who is on a visit to Tokyo, at the final press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
Kishida also commented on the forthcoming visit of the Chinese President to Russia. “I would like[Xi Jinping – Profile]to demonstrate a position of responsible attitude towards the region and the world,” the premier said. His words on Saturday, March 18, quotes RIA News.
Formerly Scholz declaredthat the PRC leadership should maintain direct contact with the Ukrainian authorities. If Xi Jinping were negotiating with the Ukrainian president, then this would be the right thing to do, the German Chancellor believes.
Xi Jinping will visit Russia with a state visit on March 20–22. The Chinese leader and the President of the Russian Federation will discuss topical issues of further development of bilateral relations, as well as strategic interaction between states. An exchange of views is planned in the context of deepening Russian-Chinese cooperation in the international arena. A number of important bilateral documents will be signed.
