Azerbaijan called on Armenia not to miss the opportunity to achieve peace
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan called on Armenia to realize the realities that have developed after the end of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh and not to miss the opportunity to achieve peace. This is stated in the statement of the department, distributed on Sunday, March 19.
At the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry consider, that Yerevan “needs to abandon aggressive steps and revanchist policies.” The ministry said that Armenia “forcibly expelled about 1 million Azerbaijanis from their native lands.”
This is how Baku reacted to yesterday’s publication of the Armenian Foreign Ministry. It shows that Yerevan has not abandoned the goal of preventing the return of Azerbaijanis, the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan is sure. They also believe that “Yerevan once again does not intend to take advantage of the historical chance that has arisen for peace.”
The day before, the Armenian Foreign Ministry indicated that Azerbaijan, with its statements and actions prepares for new aggression against Yerevan. It was noted that “by its aggressive words and actions, Azerbaijan is preparing for genocide against the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh.” The ministry referred to the statement of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. He spoke in the village of Talysh in Nagorno-Karabakh and stated that “there will be no peace agreement,” the Armenian Foreign Ministry said.
In September 2020, the long-term conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia escalated in Nagorno-Karabakh. Fighting began there, which lasted 44 days. There were civilian casualties. A truce was reached in November through the mediation of the Russian Federation.
At the end of October 2022, a trilateral meeting of the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan was held. As a result, Baku and Yerevan agreed to refrain from using force. The situation has returned to normal, but Armenia and Azerbaijan periodically report incidents at the border.
