The Russian Geographical Society invites you to take part in a series of thematic blitz competitions, thanks to which everyone can offer their ideas for the questions of the “Geographical Dictation – 2023”. This week’s theme is “Economics and Geography”.
Briefly repeat general concept. Seven blitz “Write your own question for the Geographical Dictation” are dedicated to the Year of the Teacher and Mentor.
A couple of contests open every week on a specific theme, inspired by anniversaries and conditionally related to school courses.
Facts and questions sent to each of the blitz contests should be focused on the geography of Russia in conjunction with the proposed topic.
Students compete to tell the most interesting facts they have learned from their teachers, and mentors share the most unusual questions their students have asked.
From February 13 to May 17, the international competition “Write your own question for the Geographical Dictation – 2023” is held, for which no more than three original questions can be submitted. Participation is welcome both in the blitz series and in international competitionhowever, sending the same question is not allowed.
The topic of the fifth week, when Russia celebrates the Day of Cultural Workers (March 25), is “Ethnography and Art History”. We are waiting for the most vivid and entertaining facts that impressed the students, and non-standard questions from the world of traditions and creativity of the peoples of Russia that the mentors will remember.
Ideas sent to competitions within the framework of this topic should be devoted to the ethnography and art of the peoples of our country. Questions and facts may relate to:
holidays, life, languages of the peoples of Russia;
folk art crafts;
literary creativity, folklore, fine arts, music and dances of the peoples of Russia;
the history of the formation and development of multinational and multi-confessional Russia.
We also welcome questions and facts about ethnographically conditioned toponymy, the activities of domestic ethnographers and the study of the Russian population, including by foreign researchers.
In order for your idea to be accepted for the competition and, if won, form the basis of one of the tasks of the main version of the Geographical Dictation 2023, the submitted fact or question must meet a number of criteria.
Types. Competitions accept questions of a closed type, with multiple choice of answers, and each question can have only one correct answer. Accordingly, for a fact from the world of geography, only one unquestionable interpretation is also possible. Requirements for questions and facts and examples of their presentation are recorded in Appendix No. 1 to Regulations on the competition.
Originality. Questions and facts that do not repeat the content of the tasks of the Geographical Dictation of previous years are accepted for competitions. You can view all the options for past seasons of the promotion – and at the same time test your strength – Here.
Quantity. There is a strict limitation here: one person can only offer three ideas.
Let us briefly recall the procedure series of short thematic competitions.
Questions and facts are checked by experts who determine the best ideas, on the basis of which the tasks of the main version of the dictation will be formulated.
Two winners of each topic – a mentor and a student – will receive certificates and a gift certificate that allows them to pay for a tourist trip with an open date along one of the routes recommended by the Russian Geographical Society.
The list of winners will appear on the RGS website no later than May 17, 2023.
The competition committee can also determine the group of finalists, from which no more than four winners can be selected within each topic.
